What happens during a roof replacement?

This guide walks through the work between choosing your new roof and reviewing the finished installation. Use it to prepare your household, understand the sequence, and ask useful questions before the first delivery.

Before the crew arrives

Discuss delivery access, the debris container, driveway parking, gates, pets, and anything stored beside the house. Identify the roof areas included in the project: the main house, attached garage, porch, or separate structures. Set a contact method for questions during the work.

If you have solar panels, schedule their removal before the roofing begins. Our roof replacement and solar reinstallation service handles both trades in one project.

Tear-off exposes the roof deck

The old covering comes off so the roof deck can be examined. This is the point when damage concealed beneath the roofing becomes visible. Review the included decking work and the approval process for additional repairs with your estimator before construction.

Ask for photographs of any newly exposed problem and a clear explanation of the repair. Keep that information with the project record.

Build the layers and transitions

Roof replacement brings together the deck, underlayment, flashing, covering, edges, and ventilation. The junctions deserve attention: walls, valleys, chimneys, vents, skylights, and changes in roof slope.

Confirm the selected roof material and color before it is ordered. Discuss each low-slope or patio section separately so it has a defined roofing approach.

Plan the solar return

Existing solar goes back after the roof is ready. The reinstallation plan connects mounting and flashing details with electrical work and operating checks. If you are adding panels for the first time, use our new roof and new solar guide to start that design before roofing begins.

Review the finished work

Walk through cleanup, the completed roof areas, and the project paperwork with your contact. Save material information, inspection records, and warranty documents together. Team All Star provides a 10-year workmanship warranty on our roofing and solar installation work.
